Greensboro police officer fatally shoots man while on mental health crisis call

A Greensboro police officer fatally shot a man while responding to a mental health crisis call.
The Greensboro Police Department says officers were dispatched to Crestridge Road Wednesday morning after receiving a call related to a suicide threat.
They encountered 28-year-old Titus Kopp holding a knife. Police say Kopp didn’t respond to commands to drop the weapon and “advanced toward the officer.” Kopp was then shot by the officer and succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.
The officer involved in the incident has been placed on administration duty.
The department says it will conduct an internal investigation to determine if policies were followed. It is also requesting that the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation conduct a separate criminal investigation into the incident, as is standard procedure.
