The city of Greensboro has received new funding to bolster a regional traffic safety program.
The grant, totaling more than $735,000, is being provided by the federal Safe Streets For All program. It aims to improve road safety and reduce traffic-related fatalities.
The money will help support the city’s Comprehensive Safety Action Plan, which focuses on speed management strategies, road safety audits and community engagement.
Upcoming initiatives will include improved lighting, speed monitoring and a targeted media campaign to promote safe driving.
Officials say the plan is designed to engage underserved communities, including the east side of Greensboro, home to 35% of the city’s population.
According to a news release, this is the Gate City’s third Safe Streets grant, and the first to include a partnership with the Greensboro Police Department.
