One person’s trash is another's trophy. That’s part of the philosophy behind Trash Bash, an event coming to Greensboro this spring.

The city’s Office of Sustainability and Resilience has partnered with Reconsidered Goods, a local nonprofit to promote the creative reuse of refuse.

In March, four teams will be pitted against one another in a found-art competition.

Reconsidered Goods takes donated materials with life left in them and sells them in a retail space to artists and anyone else looking to incorporate reused items into their work.

Each Trash Bash team will have just over an hour to build a work of art out of unique items put aside by Reconsidered staff while sorting through their donations.

Catena Bergevin, executive director of Reconsidered Goods, explained it best.

"There’s challenges and there’s time limits and there’s judges," Bergevin said. "We make trophies out of reused materials and it’s certainly to have fun, number one and then number two, to really try to spread the word about how we can relook at making art with really unusual things that would have landed in a landfill."

Bergevin encourages anyone who is interested to visit the city of Greensboro’s website and register soon, as spots are filling up.
