Greensboro's professional golf tournament has suddenly become a more attractive event for major players now that the Wyndham Championship could get a boost from the PGA's move to put more emphasis - and cash - into the playoffs.
As the last tournament on the regular schedule, the Wyndham has in recent years been a draw for players trying to bolster their rankings or those simply trying to hang on to their professional careers.
A new change could shake-up the field. Next year, the top ten finishers in the regular season will get a bonus as a member of the Wyndham Rewards Top 10.
It's a potential $10 million payoff. PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said that might encourage players to enter the Wyndham Championship to try to secure the No. 1 seed or at least improve positions going into the playoffs.
It would be their last chance to improve their standings to earn the lucrative bonus.
The Wyndham program is part of an expansion of prize money which also sees the doubling of bonuses and a $15 million prize to the FedEx Cup champion.
