Guilford County is launching a public survey seeking residents' input to help shape a 10-year master plan for its parks and trails.

The comprehensive plan will provide strategic direction for the county's recreational spaces. This includes 17 area parks and more than 60 miles of trails and greenways.

Parks Director Dwight Godwin says the county's been providing these services since the late 1980s, but this initiative will provide a roadmap for his department to better work with municipalities.

"We're trying to bring these services all together," Godwin says. "Again, we don't want to duplicate what's already here, we want to improve and expand what's missing from the system."

He says the plan is only going to be successful with community input as it will determine what they're willing to support.

Questions on the public survey range from the affordability of the county's amenities, to accessibility for families.

The survey is open until June 30.
