In the early 2010s, The Head and the Heart emerged as one of the breakout bands during that decade's explosion of folk rock.
After more than 15 years of being a band, they tried something different on their forthcoming album, Aperture. The record is a return to form, with all of the band members sharing songwriting duties.
Today, The Head and the Heart stop by the World Cafe studio for a live performance featuring songs from the new album. Plus, the band gets into why they wanted all of the members to "raise their hands" with new ideas and, as Matt Gervais says, leave some room for imperfection.
This episode of World Cafe was produced and edited by Kimberly Junod and Will Loftus. The web story was created by Miguel Perez. Our engineer is Chris Williams and our programming and booking coordinator is Chelsea Johnson.
