Guilford County officials have issued a health alert after a case of rabies was identified.
The county's public health division is alerting residents that a fox on Sedgewood Lane in Greensboro tested positive for rabies on Tuesday.
According to a news release, this is Guilford’s second confirmed case of animal rabies in 2024.
Officials are reminding residents that all domestic pets aged four months and older must be vaccinated for rabies, whether they live indoors or outside. Animals confined in outdoor fenced areas should also have current vaccinations.
The health alert included tips for preventing exposure such as avoiding direct contact with wildlife, dead or alive.
Avoid animals displaying unnatural behavior or fighting with each other.
Any strays should be reported to Animal Control offices in Greensboro or High Point.
