Preparations are being made in the Triad area for Tropical Storm Debby as weather conditions are continuously evolving.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the Triad is expected to see showers throughout Thursday with the chance of thunderstorms.

National Weather Service meteorologist Aaron Swiggett says that even though the storm is weakening as it approaches the area it should still be taken seriously.

"Tropical storms can still produce significant amounts of rainfall and it's important to not associate the strength of a storm with the expected impacts," he says. "The impacts can be far greater because of the relative slow-moving nature, and related to high rainfall totals out and across the area."

He says the region could see between 3-6 inches of rain. Swiggett says residents should take caution when traveling due to potential flash flood events.

Winston-Salem and Greensboro city officials said Tuesday that they are taking proactive steps to prevent flooding in high-risk areas.
