More Triad homes and businesses will soon have access to high-speed broadband service.

The telecommunications company NorthState has announced a continued expansion of its fiber-optic network, meaning more communities will have access to ultra-high-speed internet service.

The company, which is based in High Point, announced an accelerated construction schedule with a goal of completing installations by the end of next year. NorthState says it hopes to enable high-speed internet to 80,000 more customers, including many in underserved locales.

According to a news release, the expansion areas include Greensboro, High Point, Kernersville, Oak Ridge, Walkertown, and Thomasville.

Adam Ward is Manager of Network and Security for the City of High Point. Ward praised the announcement, saying that reliable broadband connectivity “is crucial for modern residential activities such as work-from-home or remote learning.”
