AppHealthCare recently released its State of the County Health report for Watauga County. Among the priorities are improving mental and behavioral health and strengthening social supports.

The report also notes that lack of housing needs to be addressed as it can have an effect on long-term health. Growth in the county and limited places to build have made finding affordable housing difficult for many.

Jennifer Greene is the CEO of AppHealthCare. She says finding solutions will lead to improved well-being for residents.

“If we don’t have those basic needs met, it’s incredibly challenging to address other needs that a person might have," she says. "So things like preventing a chronic disease or addressing a mental health problem just gets more complex and harder to address.”

AppHealthCare releases a State of the County report for Alleghany, Ashe and Watauga counties every three years.
