John Deere has announced plans to build a new multimillion-dollar manufacturing facility in Kernersville.
The company is investing $70 million in the new building, where it plans to build small excavators.
The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners approved just under $1 million in economic incentives for the project earlier this month.
In a press release, officials said Kernersville’s “proximity to key markets and strong infrastructure” made it an ideal location for the facility. About half of North America's small excavator industry is located in the Southern U.S., according to the statement.
John Deere already employs 600 people on its current campus in Kernersville. The expansion is expected to bring in 150 new jobs.
Construction is slated to begin later this year.
