Lindsay Lou & The Flatbellys make their first appearance on Mountain Stage, recorded live in Charleston, W.Va. A bluegrass-inspired band that keeps one foot in its native Michigan's Motown soul and the other in the polished twang of Music City, the group had no idea what lay before it when its members first began jamming at open mics. In the past year, they've toured behind the release of their most recent record, Ionia, and been featured in the lineup of The Shetland Island Folk Festival, 200 miles north of mainland Scotland, as well as the Stagecoach Music Festival in California.

The band earned its name at a Michigan bluegrass festival, when a fellow player said, "It's good to see you flatbellys out here pickin' with us graybeards." In addition to singer-guitarist Lindsay Lou Rilko, Mark Lavengood plays dobro and bass, along with PJ George on guitar and Joshua Rilko on mandolin and banjo.
