LISTEN: Latest Weather Update On Florence

From Meteorologist Jeff Huffman, expires at 11 p.m. Sunday:

TRANSCRIPT: The flash flood risk continues overnight across portions of central North Carolina. This is an update from the storm center and that threat of flash flooding is quite extreme now from Winston-Salem to Greensboro to Raleigh [and] Durham. And this band of heavy rain... the moisture pulling in and around the remnants of Tropical Depression Florence is going to be persistent for several more hours. I think another three to seven inches of rain could fall in central sections of North Carolina.

It has briefly tapered off in Charlotte but I do expect more bands to develop overnight and rotate north and east. The tornado risk continues as well for areas a little further to the south and east toward Fayetteville and that may actually move up into the Raleigh area by morning with those outer bands rotating around the remnants of Florence. By midday Monday, we should finally see this system pull to the north and the rain will start to taper off. Still some bands, though, of showers and a few thunderstorms expected in through the evening hours Monday. I think Tuesday is a much better day for the Tar Heel State from the storm center.
