If you've ever visited Alabama, you may have been struck by the color of the ground. The soil in many parts of the state is red. It gives the land an intensity. It's beautiful, but it's a haunting kind of beautiful. That's where The Red Clay Strays come from — not only their name, but their sound.

In 2022, the country rock band from Mobile, Ala., released their debut album, Moment of Truth, and its single "Wondering Why" was so successful they ended up selling out shows on tour and needing to move into bigger venues.

For their second album, they worked with famed Nashville producer Dave Cobb. Made by These Moments will be out on July 26, but you'll hear The Red Clay Strays perform one of the songs from that album as they kick off this mini-concert recorded exclusively for World Cafe at the NON-COMMvention 2024 in Philadelphia.

This episode of World Cafe was produced by Will Loftus. The web build was created by Miguel Perez. Our senior producer is Kimberly Junod and our engineer is Chris Williams. Our programming and booking coordinator is Chelsea Johnson.
