Manning Wins Democratic Primary for Newly Redrawn 6th District

Democrat Kathy Manning has won the nomination for the newly redrawn 6th Congressional District. 

The final tally revealed she won nearly half of the vote in a race that included four other candidates. 

This is Manning's second congressional campaign. Her 2018 run for the heavily conservative 13th District ended in a loss to Republican incumbent Ted Budd. Back then, it was rare for her to mention President Trump. In her victory speech Tuesday, his agenda was a major theme. 

“We have got to stop the incivility, the bigotry, the lies, and the misinformation that are the hallmark of President Trump and his administration," said Manning. "We can do all this if we pull together and work hard between now and November to make sure we get our message out and make sure we get the voters out.” 

The new 6th District leans to the left and includes the cities of Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and High Point. 

Manning will face Republican Lee Haywood in the general election.
