Cone Health and the Guilford County Department of Public Health have opened a large new COVID-19 vaccination clinic in Greensboro. Health care providers there will soon have the capacity to administer roughly 140 vaccines per hour.
The clinic is located in the Special Events Center at the Greensboro Coliseum with ample space for social distancing and vaccinating up to 1,500 people a day. It's open to anyone 65 years and older. Staff and wheelchair services are available to escort those in need to and from their appointments.
Cone Health Chief Pharmacy Officer DeAnne Brooks says it's gratifying to see people excited to roll up their sleeves and get a shot in the arm, but she cautions they need to remain vigilant.
“Even though we have received the vaccine and even through our second dose, it protects us — a 95% efficacy — but we don't know if we can still transmit the virus to someone else,” says Brooks. “So, we still have to wear our masks.”
A limited supply of the vaccine is available, and it was given by appointment only, which quickly filled up.
People 65 and older are encouraged to register for the vaccination online or by phone at (336)-641-7944 and be placed on a waitlist. Cone Health will notify individuals once appointments become available.
