More North Carolinians are expected to travel this Thanksgiving than last year... and more people with badges will be watching them.
Lower gas prices are expected to lead to an uptick in travelers. According to AAA of the Carolinas, the average statewide price for a gallon of gas will be $2.07.
That's about 70 cents less than last year. Travelers here haven't seen holiday gas prices this low since 2008.
Also, the Highway Patrol will be working with local agencies to increase traffic enforcement on North Carolina's major highways including Interstates 40, 85 and 77.
The goal is to reduce to zero the number of fatalities on the state's roadways. They'll be looking for speeders, drunk drivers, distracted drivers and people not wearing their seat belts.
Last year, 14 people died on North Carolina roads over the Thanksgiving holiday.
