Amber Alert: 7-Month-Old Abducted By Registered Sex Offender

An Amber Alert has been issued for a 7-month-old girl who police say was abducted by a registered sex offender at a gas station in Virginia.

The alert was issued by Virginia State Police. It says Emma Grace Kennedy and 51-year-old Carl Ray Kennedy are possibly headed to North Carolina, following the Sunday night kidnapping.

According to the alert, Carl Kennedy was armed with a knife when he assaulted the infant's mother at a Kwik Stop and took the girl. Police have not disclosed a possible relationship between Carl Kennedy and Emma Kennedy.

Authorities say Carl Kennedy is registered as a sex offender in North Carolina, and is currently out of jail on a $250,000 bond for drug distribution.

He was last seen driving a gold Suzuki sedan with fake North Carolina tags FAA-1873. There's also an emblem on the vehicle that says, “Johnny's Auto Sales.”

Randolph Health And Cone Health Will Not Combine Organizations

After over a year of negotiations, Randolph Health will not become part of Cone Health's larger integrated health care network.

Currently the two provide some services in Asheboro jointly, and Cone Health operates as a managing partner.

Randolph Health CEO Steve Eblin says the two have been longtime partners and that conversations about integration were amicable.

Cone Health's CEO said in a press release that it was a difficult decision, but that combining would require the organization's priorities and projects to be scaled back or put on hold.

Google Apologizes For Lawmaker Pictured With 'Bigot' Label

Google has apologized to a North Carolina lawmaker after a search for her picture turned up an old photo with the word "bigot" superimposed over the image.

The image of state Sen. Trudy Wade with the word in red letters at the bottom of the photo was taken down on Friday.

A tweet from Google said images that appear in its Knowledge Panel are either selected by verified users or are automatically sourced from sites across the internet.

Statue Depicting Native American To Come Down At Car Dealer

A North Carolina car dealership is taking down a statue depicting a native American following a text sent by an employee to a potential customer.

Harry's on the Hill in Asheville announced the employee sent an "ugly, insulting and inappropriate text message" to a customer, who was identified as a member of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians, instead of a co-worker for whom it was intended.

The dealership said the worker who sent the text was immediately fired.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports the 23-foot-tall fiberglass statue of Chief Pontiac was erected when the dealership moved to its current location in November 1967. On its Facebook page, the dealership said it now considers the statue "a relic from a different era" that should be moved.

2 Red Wolf Puppies Born At North Carolina Zoo Die

Two of the five red wolf puppies born at the North Carolina Zoo in the wake of severe weather have died.

The News & Observer reports zoo officials say the pups, named Hurricane and Typhoon, were euthanized after they received traumatic injuries caused by their father. The zoo said the dad, named Finnick, was relocated to protect the survival of the remaining puppies.

Zoo officials were relieved when three female and two male puppies were born in April during the weekend when severe thunderstorms and a tornado swept through the Triad.

With the deaths and the father's relocation, the zoo's red wolf pack now totals 21.
