North Carolina Lawmakers Address Sexual Assault Laws
Legislators are working to close loopholes in the state's sexual assault laws.
In North Carolina, it is legal to have non-consensual sex with an incapacitated person if that person willingly got drunk or high. It's also legal to drug someone's drink.
The state House passed a bill last week to close both loopholes. The measure now goes to the Senate.
In a related move, a separate bill would address an assault rule unique to North Carolina. It's the only state in which a person cannot revoke consent once a sexual act is underway.
A measure that would allow consent revocation is sitting in the Senate's Rules Committee.

Greensboro police said Saturday that 18-year-old Isaiah Shields of Greensboro is recovering and facing charges. Police say one officer suffered minor injuries.
Police say they responded to a domestic dispute call late Friday and found a man at the scene inside a vehicle. Officers sought to identify him, but the man tried to drive away. He hit another vehicle in the parking lot, then changed direction and drove at police officers.
A white police officer fired and hit Shields, who is black.
