New Name For Dixie Classic Fair Could Be Announced This Week
The Dixie Classic Fair wrapped up this weekend, and it will be the last time it will be known that way. City leaders will discuss potential names for the fair at a committee meeting this week.
Merchandise sales and opening attendance broke records this year at the fair. What next year's regional event will be called hasn't been decided.
City leaders will present information to a city council committee this week, which will include a timeline and the estimated cost to implement a new name. Some suggested ones that were submitted during a public input period earlier this year will also be part of the conversation.
Police: Suspect In North Carolina Girl's Abduction Arrested
Greensboro police say a woman accused of abducting a 3-year-old girl from a playground at an apartment complex has been arrested.
Authorities say 22-year-old N'deneszia Lancaster on Saturday was taken to a police station in Greensboro by someone she knows, The News & Record reports.
Greensboro Police spokesman Ron Glenn says Lancaster did not resist arrest and is being questioned. Police say Lancaster is facing a first-degree kidnapping charge in the abduction of Ahlora Lindiment. Lancaster is being held on $1 million bail.
Authorities have said Lancaster took Ahlora from the playground Wednesday.
Greensboro Health Officials Warn Of Exposure To Measles
Triad health officials are warning residents about potential exposure to measles in the Greensboro area.
A news release from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services says a patient with measles traveled through Guilford County on October 2nd and 3rd.
Officials say people may have been exposed at the Piedmont Triad International Airport and at the Greensboro Wyndham Garden Hotel.
The Guilford County Health Department is urging people who have not been vaccinated against measles and were at either of those locations on those dates to contact their doctors.
Orville Wright Bust Stolen From North Carolina Monument
The National Park Service says a copper bust of aviation pioneer Orville Wright has been stolen from the Wright Brothers National Memorial in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
The Park Service and local law enforcement officials are investigating the case and are asking the public for any information.
The agency in a statement says the monument was damaged either Saturday evening or Sunday morning. The granite base that the bust was mounted to was toppled and damaged.
One Area Football Team Ranked While Another Falls Out
Unbeaten Appalachian State is ranked for just the second time in school history in the latest Associated Press poll.
The Mountaineers have the nation's third-longest winning streak behind powerhouses Clemson and Ohio State. It's a string of victories that includes a win over UNC last month.
Their current ranking at number 24 is the highest in school history.
Wake Forest dropped out of the poll after a loss to Louisville Saturday. Virginia also fell out, leaving number three Clemson as the only ranked team from the Atlantic Coast Conference.
