Second Deadline Passes For State Health Plan Contract

Only one additional hospital joined the new State Health Plan during a second sign-up period that ended on Monday.

The Winston-Salem Journal reports that less than half of the state's health care providers have signed onto the Clear Pricing Project, a plan backed by State Treasurer Dale Folwell.

In the Triad, Cone Health has rejected the plan, while Novant Health says it's still reviewing the contract. Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has not commented on whether or not it will join.

Providers that don't sign a contract for the plan by January 1st could become out-of-network for their patients, leading to significantly higher costs for many medical procedures.

Jarrell was Guilford's chief district court judge. Gov. Roy Cooper will appoint a replacement for Jarrell's unexpired term.

WDEF-TV reports that the billboard was replaced on Monday with one reading: "First Amendment. Enough Said."

The chief salesperson for the gun shop said they took down the original message because of death threats posted online.

Over 40 Rescued From Rip Currents At Wrightsville Beach

A North Carolina ocean rescue official says more than 40 people had to be saved from dangerous rip currents at a single beach on Sunday.

Dave Baker is the ocean rescue director for Wrightsville Beach. Baker confirmed that dozens of swimmers were rescued from rip currents there by late afternoon Sunday.

He said red flags indicating a high rip current hazard were flying all day. When red flags are in the air, conditions are seen as potentially life-threatening, and swimmers are discouraged from getting in the water.
