Federal Disaster Relief On Its Way For Local Tornado Victims
President Trump loosened the purse strings on federal disaster relief funds for Greensboro. He declared the area's April 15 tornado and severe storms "a major disaster."
The declaration means that the Federal Emergency Management Agency can dispense funds for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover the loss of uninsured property, and other recovery programs to help individual residents and business owners.
According to the News and Record, Trump's action followed on the heels of a letter by North Carolina's congressional delegation endorsing the affected area's need for FEMA assistance, and a similar request made to the president by Gov. Roy Cooper.

Lawyers for The Chemours Co. said in a letter to the state environmental agency released Tuesday it's taking steps to cut GenX air emissions by 40 percent this month and 70 percent by October.
The Wilmington, Delaware-based company responded to a warning by the state Department of Environmental Quality that it could change a key air permit unless emissions fall.

It provides an opportunity for communities in North Carolina and nationwide to celebrate safe and active transportation and raise awareness to changes necessary to make bicycling safer.
