Be sure to join Across the Blue Ridge and our home public radio station, WFDD, at this year's National Folk Festival in Greensboro, NC. WFDD will have a presence at the North Carolina stage hosted by the Folklife Section of the North Carolina Arts Council. And I am hosting the Youth Rising component of the festival, featuring outstanding young performers in bluegrass and old time music. We will have two sets on Saturday, and two on Sunday, with a range of performers including Kitty Amaral, Presley Barker, Daniel Greeson, Madison Shepherd and others. The festival in downtown Greensboro is free and no tickets are required. Check the schedule on the festival's website for the Youth Rising sets and much more, including performances by the acclaimed North Carolina bluegrass band Balsam Range; telecaster master Bill Kirchen and The Quebe Sisters from Texas; and Clinton Fearon and the Boogie Brown Band from Seattle.

Also, you'll hear Presley Barker, Kitty Amaral and Kyser George and their band Shadowgrass. Here are Kitty, Presley and Kyser in an Across the Blue Ridge performance at Muddy Creek Music Hall in Winston-Salem, NC. Photo by Paul Brown.
Banjoist Madison Shepherd will be there as well, plus mentors Scott Freeman, Steve Lewis, and other exciting young performers carrying on and extending regional traditions. Photo courtesy Madison Shepherd.
