Winston Salem State University has announced a multi-million dollar expansion as part of its long-term vision for the school.
WSSU's Board of Trustees approved the 20-year master plan on Friday. The university says it will help support growing enrollment and student needs.
A big part of the project is new construction in what's known as the emerging science district on campus where four academic buildings will be added. In order to make that happen, WSSU wants to acquire space that became vacant last year with the closure of the U.S. 52 entrance ramp at Rams Drive.
Other improvements would include renovations to the library, a new student center and a 6,000 seat on-campus football stadium.
The projected price tag for the master plan is more than $550 million. University officials say it would complement a major construction project that's already underway on campus.
