New program offers grants to Forsyth County companies that create tech jobs

A local economic development nonprofit is giving out grants to companies that create new technology jobs in Forsyth County. 

Greater Winston-Salem, Inc. is introducing a new Tech Talent Recruitment Fund that offers grants to companies that create new positions in database services, business intelligence, information technology, and other technology-related fields. 

Companies can receive disbursements up to $5,000 for each new hire. The money can be used to fund recruitment efforts, onboarding, or as a bonus for the new employee. 

Greater Winston-Salem, Inc. Senior Vice President of Economic Development Laura Lee says the program is designed to help Forsyth County companies expand. 

“I think the ultimate goal is sort of two parts. We first want to retain existing employers by supplying them with the best tech talent to keep them in the forefront of our industries," says Lee. "And then secondarily, attract quality tech talent to continue to develop our strength in tech-related careers.”

The program is funded by the Truist Foundation and the City of Winston-Salem. It's expected to run for five years.
