Greensboro-based Cone Health announced this week a multimillion-dollar renovation project aimed at increasing access to healthcare in rural communities. The project will bring multiple specialty services to Rockingham County.

According to a press release, Cone Health will spend $3.5 million on renovations to a building in Eden it will share with Dayspring Family Medicine.

The health system will renovate about 12,000 square feet of space in order to bring in new services including urology, gastroenterology and general surgery.

Deno Adkins, senior vice president for ambulatory and consumer services for Cone, said in the release the new development is part of his organization’s efforts to break down barriers to access for health care in rural areas.

“Finding convenient, high-quality health care in rural areas is challenging, not only in North Carolina, but across the nation,” Adkins said. “We want to make working with your provider to remain as healthy as possible as easy as going to the supermarket. And in this case, it really will be.”

A Sagewell Health & Fitness center, Cone’s twist on a gym with a provider referral program for specialized exercise routines, will also sit on the premises.

Services at the Eden location will start in early 2025 with the opening of the fitness center; other services will become available as the year goes on.
