The former Sears at Hanes Mall in Winston-Salem will soon become a Novant Health COVID-19 vaccination site.
The facility is set up to accommodate 7,000 vaccinations per day. But, that will only be possible if Novant receives enough supply from the state.
Pam Oliver, the president of Novant's Physician Network, says they were told to expect just 2,700 doses for next week. She says that's far fewer than what's needed to keep up with demand, particularly since people age 65 and older are now eligible.
“It's true that adding more people into a pool without having enough supply for the person is not ideal," she said. "But I do understand the federal government and the state, their idea that in some places maybe that makes more sense for the community.”
The former Sears site is set to open on January 25. COVID-19 vaccinations will be available there by appointment only.
