The Winston-Salem Urban League is commemorating the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a new photo exhibit featuring rare and unseen pictures.

Most of the photos are related to the Chicago Freedom Movement, which was led by King as he fought for fair housing, quality education and employment, and ending segregation in the city.

Photographer Bernard J.Kleina was there to document the marches and the work of King and his contemporaries, including Coretta Scott-King, Dick Gregory, Mahalia Jackson, and many others. There are also pictures of people trying to disrupt the marches, as well as modern photographs that reflect the issues of today.

The photos will be at the Urban League Event Center on North Trade Street in downtown Winston-Salem from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. this Friday during the First Friday Gallery Hop.
