The grocery chain Publix is considering building a $400 million regional distribution center in Guilford County that would create close to 1,000 jobs.

The proposed 1.8 million-square-foot facility would be one of the largest distribution centers in the Triad.

According The News and Record, Publix Super Markets Inc. has asked the Greensboro City Council for almost $18 million in incentive grants. They've also asked for $3 million worth of water and sewer lines near Birch Creek Road in eastern Guilford County.

The council will hold a public hearing on the request on March 20.

Publix, which is based in Florida, currently has stores in Winston-Salem, High Point and Clemmons, with another one slated to open in Jamestown.
