Salvation Army: Carolinas Employee Embezzled Nearly $230K

A worker at the Salvation Army's headquarters for the Carolinas is accused of embezzling nearly $230,000.

Salvation Army officials filed a police report Friday saying the money was taken by an employee at its divisional headquarters in Charlotte. The agency released a statement Tuesday saying that the Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte was not impacted by the theft or part of the police investigation.

The release also said that the theft shouldn't impact services at the 60 locations the divisional headquarters support as the Salvation Army is fully insured.

According to the police report, the sum was taken over a period of two years.

The employee's name has not been released. The suspect hasn't yet been charged.
