Senator Elizabeth Warren's campaign is opening offices in North Carolina and touting endorsements. The Democratic presidential candidate has also weighed in on the Silent Sam controversy.

Warren's campaign recently opened its state headquarters in Raleigh. The News & Observer reports field offices are set to open in Durham, Charlotte, and Asheville.

The campaign is also publicizing endorsements from several Democratic state lawmakers including Representative Pricey Harrison of Greensboro.

On Wednesday, Warren shared a newspaper story about the University of North Carolina offering payouts to the North Carolina Sons of Confederate Veterans, who were also given ownership of the Confederate statue known as Silent Sam.

The Massachusetts senator tweeted, “Shame on the UNC Board of Governors — and the Republican legislators who used a power grab to appoint the radical board.” She concluded the tweet by saying, “Public funds should be used for students, not paying off Confederate groups.”

Warren held her first North Carolina campaign rally in November.
