The general election for the State Senate District 31 seat will come down to two candidates with a background in public education.
Ronda Mays, a school social worker in Stokes County, won in the Democratic primary with about 54% of the vote. She’s worked in public schools for more than 23 years and was the president of the Forsyth County Association of Educators.
In the November election, she’ll face Dana Caudill Jones, a Republican who served eight years on the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school board. She’s also a founding member of the district’s education foundation.
In the Forsyth County Commissioners District B race, a slate of Democratic candidates with a passion for public education will be advancing to the general election as well.
Valerie Brockenbrough, Marsie West, and Kendall Fields each received a little under 30% of the vote in the primary. Fields, a teacher at Parkland Magnet High School, was the top vote-getter on the Democratic side.
They’ll compete against Republican incumbents Richard Linville, Gloria Whisenhunt, and Dave Plyler for three seats on the board.
