The North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles will be waiving some of its fees in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence.

Drivers who live in the 28 counties heavily impacted by Florence will be able to get free duplicate licenses, IDs and registration cards through the end of the year.

According to a department press release, Governor Roy Cooper signed an executive order on Thursday that waived fees, late penalties and interest for those and other services in the impacted area.

Cooper also issued an order temporarily waiving fees for the replacement of vital records, including birth, death, marriage and divorce certificates. That order will be in effect until the state of emergency is lifted.

The counties exempted include Beaufort, Bladen, Brunswick, Carteret, Columbus, Craven, Cumberland, Duplin, Greene, Harnett, Hoke, Hyde, Johnston, Jones, Lee, Lenoir, Moore, New Hanover, Onslow, Pamlico, Pender, Pitt, Richmond, Robeson, Sampson, Scotland, Wayne and Wilson.
