North Carolina moves into Group 3 vaccinations Wednesday, a group that includes child care workers and educators.

About 1,500 doses will be available to Forsyth County educators beginning Saturday, says Brent Campbell, a spokesman for the school system.

In a survey, about 6,000 system employees said they'd take the vaccine if offered.

Campbell says school employees have been working hard to make a safe transition back to in-person learning, and the vaccine is a great way to make that effort easier.

“This helps everyone feel safer,” he says. “This helps our teachers feel safer in the building. And this helps I think our families feel safer as well, knowing that there's more people around their students that are vaccinated.”

About 700 people in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County school system have already been vaccinated because they were eligible under different criteria.

Friday classes in Guilford County Public Schools will be remote to allow more employees to get their first doses. School officials say about 3,000 educators are expected to get their vaccines between Thursday night and Saturday evening.
