Sam Parker: Beard Connoisseur

Sam Parker is a founding member of the Camel City Beard and Mustache Club, and has an appreciation for beards. His organization helps to promote local charities, music, art, food, and drink. Radio Camper Christopher Stirewalt talked with him about it.

  Sam came to me with a long beard, glasses, and a blue and white shirt. When we started the interview, I asked him about his interest in beards. 

You know, it's just one of those things where we enjoy the experience of having the beard.It keeps the face warm, it keeps the sun off your skin. You can do all kinds of fun things with it like, curl your mustache, or grow it out long, or cut it short. You know, women have their hair to play with, we guys have our beards to play with.

We talked a while about his organization and his beard, and I asked him what the hardships of having a large beard are.

I think trying to keep it out of your way. Sometimes when you eat it kinda gets in your way, and trust me, if you are eating ribs, you need a lot of napkins.

  We then we talked about how he keeps his beard clean. 

Well I wash it like my hair, and, of course, there is a lot of other stuff that goes into it. I actually oil my beard, I brush it out all the time, I use wax on my mustache. It actually takes a lot of effort to keep it clean and looking good. I get it trimmed up at least once a month, and so that way, if you keep it trimmed, it grows faster.
