An Appalachian Summer Festival Returns

An Appalachian Summer Festival continues through the entire month of July on the beautiful App State campus in Boone with an exciting and diverse mix of music, dance, theatre, visual arts and film.

  For nearly a decade, the Appalachian Summer Festival has been named one of the "Top Twenty Events in the Southeast" by the Southeast Tourism Society. This month's schedule is highlighted with performances by world-renowned modern dance company Pilobolus on Thursday night, July 3.  Then on Saturday night, July 6 it's The king of the Golden Flute, Sir James Galway.

The performance begins at 8:00 PM in the  Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts. Galway will be joined by The Eastern Festival Orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Gerard Schwarz. Also on the program University of North Carolina School of the Arts alum and Winner of the 2013 Rosen-Schaffel Competition for Young and Emerging artists, Burnsville, N.C native, saxophonist Shane Rathburn.  

Later this month at Appalachian Summer Festival on July 12,  Broadway star Matthew Morrison joins the Greensboro Symphony for an evening of Broadway favorites. Award-winning Dance Theatre of Harlem performs on July 19, and the National Youth Orchestra of the U.S. will be joined in concert by sensational Israeli violinist Gil Shaham on July 26.
