Movies and Musicals: A Family Fun Night with the Salem Band

Salem Band began performing way back in 1771 making it one of the oldest community bands in the nation. These days you can hear the ensemble perform free public concerts seven times a year. Five of them are outdoors in the beautiful, shaded confines of Salem Square. On June 17^th it'll be Movies and Musicals: FAMILY FUN NIGHT with music for all ages, including pieces from “Wizard of Oz” and “Wicked”. Since May of 2011 Salem Band has been led by Music Director, Winston-Salem Symphony Bass Clarinetist, and WFU Saxophone, Woodwind Ensembles, and Clarinet Instructor Eileen Young.

On July 1st, it's Salem band's Annual Patriotic Concert: honoring veterans in our community. The Old North State: connecting to our NC community is the theme for Salem Band's August 5^th outdoors concert, with guests renowned trumpeter Anita Cirba, and longtime Page High School conductor Charles Murph. All concerts are free and open to the public. They take place in beautiful shaded Salem Square where audience members are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket. There'll be hot dogs, gelato, and other refreshments by Wild Willie's Wiener Wagon and Caffé Prada.
