There are very few shows one can name in just three notes and South Pacific with music by Rodgers & Hammerstein is one of those. The last time Piedmont Opera produced a large-scale musical was 2008 and their track record is excellent. It was Light in the Piazza, the company was one of the first in the nation to produce it, and it went on to win 6 Tony Awards including best score. Some Enchanted Evening, Bali Hai, There Ain't Nothin' Like A Dame; most are familiar with the amazing music found in South Pacific. But Piedmont Opera's Jennifer Dedominici says she's also focusing on the complicated character she plays: Nellie, the naive young nurse from Little Rock, and her relationship with middle-aged French plantation owner Emile de Becque.

David Ford spoke with first place winner of  the Denver Lyric Opera Guild Competition and four- time Regional Finalist for the Metropolitan Opera  National Council auditions mezzo soprano Jennifer Dedominici. She'll sing the role of Nellie in the Piedmont Opera production of South Pacific. The Tony Award  winner and Pulitzer Prize for Drama recipient opens March 14th at 8:00 in the Stevens Center in Winston-Salem.
