Alumna and Violonist Ida Beiler to Play Concert at UNCSA

On Tuesday, October 22nd at 7:30 PM, the University of NC School of the Arts will throw a double celebration recital. 

It's the 10th anniversary of the Judy and Bill Watson Chamber Music Hall, and a triumphant return for one of UNCSA's celebrated alumni: award-winning, internationally acclaimed violinist Ida Bieler. The former Symphony and Opera Orchestra of Cologne concert master and longtime Melos String Quartet member was also a member of then NCSA's first class of students. After decades away in Europe, Ida joined the UNCSA faculty this Fall. On Tuesday night she'll be joined in recital by her colleague, Canadian pianist and UNCSA Collaborative Piano Program Director Allison Gagnon. On the program, late works by Debussy, Smetna, Brahms, and Felix Mendelssohn.

 

Ida was among the original students at UNCSA, studying with Ruggiero Ricci and Marc Gottlieb, graduating high school with the class of 1968. This fall she joined the UNCSA faculty as Guest Artist, and tomorrow night at 7:30 PM, she'll dedicate her performance to her early mentors.
