St. Paul's Friends of Music Series Hosts Organist David Briggs

You've got a friend of music here in the Triad. 

It's St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Winston-Salem. Their Friends of Music series brings in outstanding local, regional, national, and international early music performers to share their gifts in the unique Gothic space of St. Paul's and its marvelous Skinner organ. This Friday evening at 7:30pm that incredible instrument will be put to the test by internationally renowned organist Emeritus of Gloucester Cathedral in England, and St. James Cathedral Artist-in-Residence in Toronto David Briggs.

On the program will be music by Bach, Haydn, Caesar Franck and Louis Vierne as well as David's own variations of Greensleeves, and his own arrangement of Camille Saint-Saens Finale from the Organ Symphony. David will also be improvising an organ accompaniment to Charlie Chaplin's 1917 silent film The Immigrant and he'll perform Variations on a theme submitted by the audience. St. Paul's organist and choir director John Cummins spoke with David Ford recently about this remarkable performer.
