Cuban String Orchestra Camerata Romeu Comes to Winston-Salem

The award-winning, internationally acclaimed Cuban string orchestra Camerata Romeu live in concert brings an amazing collection of Cuban and Latin American chamber music performed from memory by a group of dynamic women musicians.

Their extraordinary music-making, energy, and spontaneous interactions in performance have been bringing audiences young and old to their feet for 20 years under the baton of conductor Zenaida Romeu. The first woman from her country to graduate with a degree in orchestral direction, Zenaida represents the third generation of a family of notable Cuban musicians. Last month Zenaida was on the campus of Wake Forest where she gave a talk “My Life in Cuba: The Camerata Romeu and Latin American Music”, and she also led the WFU Choir in a concert at Brendle Recital Hall. This week she brings her incredible artistic abilities and pedagogic skills to the Winston-Salem Youth Symphony Orchestra for a series of rehearsals concluding in a concert on Monday night, May 13 at 7:30 pm in the Stevens Center.
