High Point voters picked Guilford County Commission Chairman Bill Bencini Jr. to be the new mayor.
In complete but unofficial results Bencini defeated former State Rep. Marcus Brandon by a margin of 55 percent to 36 percent. Political newcomer Jimmy Scott won 9 percent of the vote.
Bencini spent 10 years on the High Point council before moving over to the District 2 county commission seat in 2010. His father, Bill Bencini Sr., also served as mayor of High Point in the early 1970s.
Former mayor Bernita Sims did not file for re-election. She resigned as mayor in September just before pleading guilty to a felony worthless check charge.
