There's a new acting chancellor at UNC Greensboro.

Dana Dunn's appointment was announced Monday by UNC system president Tom Ross. As provost and executive vice chancellor, Dunn is UNCG's chief academic officer.

She arrived in Greensboro last April, just months before a controversial decision to fire three long-time university employees. Dunn now takes over for the chancellor who oversaw that decision, Linda Brady.

Brady announced in October that she would retire effective June 30. But earlier this  month she underwent heart surgery. She is now on leave as she recuperates.

University officials are undergoing a national search for Brady's replacement, with an announcement expected in May.

Three people in the university relations office - two photographers and their supervisor - were fired in August amid accusations that they co-mingled their university jobs with a private freelance business. They also faced felony charges for a while, but the charges were eventually dropped. Many in the university responded to the firings with outrage, including a silent vigil on campus.

Brady told WFDD last fall that the timing of her decision to retire had nothing to do with the response to the firings.

Dunn came to UNCG from the University of Texas at Arlington, where she had also been provost.
