UNCSA Symphony Orchestra, Curating Andrew Moore, And Annalise Stalls And The Zen Poets

UNCSA Symphony Orchestra

This weekend, the UNCSA Symphony Orchestra kicks off its season with a performance featuring artist faculty violist Sheila Browne and newly-arrived oboist Dr. Merideth Hite. Merideth has performed and taught throughout North America, Asia, and Europe. She earned her Doctorate of Musical Arts from Julliard and has studied at the Yale School of Music and University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Today Merideth is joined by Christopher James Lees, the Music Director of the Symphony Orchestra and Associate Professor of Conducting.

The performance will be at the Stevens Center in downtown Winston-Salem, at 7:30pm on Saturday, September 26th. The program will feature the music of Brahms and de Falla as well as the performance of a new contemporary dance piece by a UNCSA student choreographer.

2 Years In Between, The Photography of Andrew Moore

Award-winning photographer Andrew Moore is drawn to places that seem to be forgotten and liminal zones. He's best known for his series of Detroit photos from 2008 during the midst of that city's accelerated decline. One of these photos was selected by a group of Wake Forest University students for the Student Union Collection in 2013. Under the direction of Professor Jay Curley and Hanes Gallery Director, Paul Bright, the students then began developing an overarching theme to guide them in selecting more works from Moore's standing body of work, for a new exhibit. Student Brittany Forniotis has been involved in the installation of the work. 2 Years In Between is currently on display at the Hanes Gallery. Brittany is joined by Paul Bright and Andrew Moore who spoke with the group from his studio in New York.

2 Years In Between runs through October 18^th at Hanes Gallery on the Wake Forest University campus. Andrew Moore's talk and Dirt Meridian book signing will take place on October 14^th.

Annalise Stalls and The Zen Poets, "Music for Mounds"

This Saturday, September 26^th, The Crown at the Carolina Theatre will be filled with the sounds of...a little bit of everything. It's the album release of Music for Mounds by Annalise Stalls and the Zen Poets. Original jazz compositions will be performed along with music by Ben Singer and Quilla's indie dance pop (think ethereal melodies, DJ'ed remixes, live vocals on top). The album release which starts at 8:00pm is part of Greensboro's 17 Days Festival. David Ford spoke with soprano saxophonist, composer, and teaching artist, not to mention DownBeat award-winning jazz arranger) Annalise Stalls.
