A series of public forums will begin next week to help UNC Greensboro pick a new chancellor to replace Linda Brady, who is retiring in July.

The forums will begin Wednesday and run through February 3 with the goal of finding out what students, alumni and the community want in the next chancellor. Most of the forums will be held on campus, but there are meetings for alumni scheduled to be held in Winston-Salem, Raleigh, Asheville and Charlotte.

A full schedule can be found here.

Brady has been chancellor since 2008.

In recent months her leadership has come under scrutiny after three employees were fired and for a time faced felony charges amid allegations that they co-mingled freelance work with their university jobs. Her public support of the decision to fire the staffers angered many on campus.

Brady announced her retirement in October, at the peak of the furor over the firings. She told WFDD in October that her decision to retire had nothing to do with the uproar. Brady said that she had begun a discussion last spring with UNC system president Tom Ross about a timeline for stepping down.

Brady's retirement is effective July 31. She has a degree in political science and plans to go back into the classroom.
