The Senate redistricting committee Tuesday approved Sen. Trudy Wade's bill to rearrange the Greensboro City Council. This was passed even with opposition from locals and questions from Democratic Senators.

Democratic Sen. Jane Smith proposed an amendment to the bill that would put any changes to a local referendum, allowing Greensboro voters to have the final say. It's something that opponents of the bill -- including several council members who spoke before the committee Tuesday -- have requested.

According to the Greensboro News and Record, Wade asked her Republican colleagues to reject that amendment, and it failed.

The full Senate may vote on the bill as soon as Wednesday.
