Sharon Robinson is a writer, educator, and former nurse midwife. She is also the daughter of baseball legend Jackie Robinson. After playing with the Kansas City Monarchs of the Negro Leagues, Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball in 1947 when he joined the Montreal Royals, the farm team for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
The career that followed was impressive: 1,518 hits, 137 home runs, 734 runs batted in, 197 stolen bases. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962.
His daughter Sharon Robinson currently serves as the Vice President of Educational Programming for Major League Baseball. She has written works of non-fiction and fiction, and several of her books are about her father including Jackie's Nine: Jackie Robinson's Values to Live By, Stealing Home, Promises to Keep, and her latest is her first picture book Testing the Ice.
Bookmarks in conjunction with Twin City Stage will bring Sharon to Winston-Salem on February 28th. Her visit coincides with the Children's Theatre's performance of "Play to Win", a musical which highlights the relationship between Brooklyn Dodgers General Manager Branch Rickey and Jackie Robinson. Sharon will attend the Saturday performance at 11:00 and, and be signing books after the show.
