In a posh 19th century European neighborhood, the wealthy Gabriel von Eisenstein, his attractive wife Rosalinda, and their maid Adele live what appears to be a comfy, happy, uneventful life together.

Throw in Eisenstein's run in with the law, his wife's steamy affair, the revenge of a doctor, and a masked ball full of mistaken identity, and you get Johann Strauss' operetta Die Fledermaus

Richard Strauss' Die Fledermaus represents the beginning of the golden age of the operetta, and The Fletcher production opens Friday, February 6th and runs through the 10th with evening performances at 7:30 PM and a Sunday matinee at 2 PM.

A. J. Fletcher Opera Institute Artistic Director Jamie Albritten is joined by soprano Jaclyn Michelle Surso and UNC School of the Arts M.F.A. set designer Charles Johnson. Allbritten and Surso share how funny the opera can be, and Johnson tells listeners about the 5 tons of scenery for the production.
