Black lawmakers at the General Assembly want to talk about how to prevent fatal incidents like those between citizens and police in Ferguson, Missouri, and elsewhere from happening in North Carolina.  A  meeting has been set up to explore how to address the issue.

The North Carolina Legislative Black Caucus scheduled a public panel discussion for Wednesday at the Legislative Building in Raleigh. Members say they want to talk about the underlying causes of conflict and what processes are in place to avoid violence. The group's Chairman Rep. Garland Pierce of Scotland County says he hopes the meeting will begin a dialogue that leads to action.

The legislators says several state law enforcement association and lobbying groups have been invited to attend, along with the state Attorney General's Office.
