Nine satellite sites for early voting open Monday across Forsyth County, which could relieve some pressure on the heavily-used early voting station at the county government center.
More than 2,700 people had voted early in Forsyth County as of Sunday evening.
Early voting began Thursday, but was available only at the elections office at the Chestnut Street government center.
It was also available for a special period of 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The Winston-Salem Journal reports the addition of Sunday voting was a key compromise that helped members of the Forsyth County Board of Elections reach a unanimous decision on an early voting site plan.
Steve Hines, the director of the Forsyth County Board of Elections, tells WFDD that the opening of satellite early voting sites was delayed due to budget concerns and site availability. Those sites include the Clemmons Library, Kernersville Senior Center, Lewisville Library, Mazie Woodruff Center, Old Town Recreation Center, Polo Park Recreation Center, Sedge Garden Recreation Center, South Fork Recreation Center and Walkertown Library.
Voting runs through Friday at satellite sites and through mid-Saturday at the government center.
